Ombuds staff from across Canada participate in advanced training seminars for investigators

Wed, Nov 30, 2022

Staff of the Office of the Yukon Ombudsman and of Ombuds offices across Canada are taking part in an innovative online training opportunity this week. Raise the Bar is an initiative of the Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman (CCPO).

The sessions, which are a first for the CCPO, provide advanced training for experienced investigators and managers within Ombuds offices across Canada. The training consists of interactive, experiential, participant-driven seminars, presented by seasoned staff from Ombuds offices, allowing advanced investigators and managers to share their expertise and experience with others working in the field. Topics being covered are in the areas of advanced skill development, sharing best practices and the future evolution of Ombudship.

More than 30 representatives from Ombuds offices in Canada are taking part in both English and French. The virtual sessions are providing opportunities for learning, mentorship, networking, cross-collaboration and sharing a wealth of knowledge that exists within Ombuds offices across the country.

Yukon Ombudsman Jason Pedlar, along with representatives from four other Ombuds offices across Canada, has been actively involved in developing and implementing the Raise the Bar seminars over the past six months.

The CCPO is a council comprised of provincial and territorial Ombudsman whose mandate it is to ensure the fair delivery of public services.

The Yukon Ombudsman is an independent officer of the Yukon Legislative Assembly.
